Current Happenings

In the past few months there has been much uncertainty, hunger, and fear in Kenya. Many of the orphans who have graduated from primary school delayed starting their secondary school because of the danger on the roads. Please continue to pray for the peace of the people in Kenya.

Vocational Center

Through support from GAP, a sewing production unit was opened in the fall. This opportunity will boost the skills of orphans who are in vocational training and generate income to meet running costs. God opened the doors at the right time. World Vision partners with Charles Okwemba in serving 1,920 other orphans and had requested that the vocational center make uniforms for World Vision’s orphans. As a result of GAP’s investment, the vocational center is now making the uniforms.

Mobile Medical Clinic

As Charles Okwemba checks on the orphans and widows under his charge, he sees how HIV/AIDS has continued to plague the people of Kenya. He states, “The majority of our widows cannot access the AIDS medication easily. We have lost some of the caregivers to this scourge. This affects our orphans' performance in schools, and causes housing shortages, to name just a few consequences. There is a desperate need for a mobile clinic to cater to the ailing caregivers and the many other needy people in the rural areas.” GAP sees this plight and wants to find funding for a mobile clinic that would be able to give people in rural areas basic medical care, drugs for AIDS and malaria, and nutritional information.

Boarding School

In Kenya, orphanages remove orphans from their community. This functionally isolates them and negates any rights they may have had to family real estate. Therefore GAP supports community caretakers for our young orphans and sends our older orphans to regular boarding schools. There is still a great stigma attached to AIDS, which affects the orphans, even if they themselves aren’t HIV positive. GAP would like to create a Boarding School with a unique student body that would welcome orphans and two-parent children alike. We are in the process of searching for good land that would be able to handle around 200 boisterous children, playgrounds, soccer fields and plenty of classrooms and dormitory space.

Taking Part

GAP is a small ministry that exists through the generosity of donors like you. Please consider making a contribution to sustain and improve the lives of these needy people. Maybe you would like to designate your contribution for a particular project: portable Bible schools, the sewing center, the mobile medical clinic, orphan care, widow support, or the boarding school. Clearly, the people we partner with in Kenya and the Ukraine will benefit greatly from your kindness.
